Established MDCCCLXXXIX
House Cotman is a private family holding company — stewarding enterprises, land, and legacy with patience, prudence, and an unbroken sense of purpose.
The House
What began as a single grain merchant on the river quay has grown into a family of enterprises spanning land, capital, and craft. We have never sought to be the largest — only to endure, and to hand on more than we received.
The family charter binds us to a single principle: that ownership is a trust, not a trophy. Every decision is measured against the generation that will inherit it.

“Tenez ferme”
Hold Fast — the family motto
Our Values
We hold what we have been given in trust — for the generations who built it, and the generations yet to come.
Patient capital and measured judgment. We favour endurance over haste and substance over spectacle.
A family bound not only by name, but by shared purpose and the quiet obligations we carry to one another.
Holdings
We hold a small number of businesses for the long term, favouring those with lasting value and honest work.
Land & Agriculture
Working farmland, forestry, and heritage properties held and cultivated across four counties.
Private Investment
Long-horizon investments in enterprises we understand, led by people we trust.
Craft & Manufacture
A portfolio of workshops preserving skilled trades — joinery, bindery, and fine metalwork.
Philanthropy
Our charitable arm, supporting education, conservation, and the communities that host our work.
